Walking Myself Home on Camino de Santiago – By Irena – Belgrade, Serbia 🇷🇸
Sometimes the mind, body and soul feel too heavy to carry. That is when I walk. Not to arrive somewhere. But to remember that I live inside a body, and that this body knows things my mind has forgotten.
As I step onto the trail, something in me exhales. Nature receives me without asking anything. A breeze, a birdsong, the quiet rhythm of my own breath and slowly, I return to myself. Walking is where I stop fighting my emotions and start feeling them. Where the noise inside grows soft enough to finally hear what is true.
On the Camino de Santiago I learned this with my whole being. Hundreds of kilometers of dust and devotion, walking with women who carried the same wordless presence. I gave every step to the little girl inside me who had waited so long to be seen. I wept on mountain paths. I laughed in the rain. I met strangers who became mirrors. And I arrived, not at a cathedral, but back to myself, breathing, open, grateful.
This is what walking gives me. Connection to myself, to nature, to others. No answers. Just the simple, profound truth of being here, one step at a time. And somewhere along the way, I stopped waiting to feel alive: I already was.
