A mountain helped me go through tough times – By Daniela – Bogota, Colombia 🇨🇴
The mountains have always felt like a gift from the Earth. Whenever I walk among old trees, listening to the sounds of nature and the way the landscape seems to speak without words, I feel connected to something bigger than myself. Walking in nature has become one of the ways I care for my mind, body, and soul.
A few months ago, I was going through a difficult time. My thoughts felt heavy, and I needed space to breathe. I decided to hike a mountain outside Bogotá, knowing that being in nature would help me slow down, observe what I was feeling, and let some of it go.
I started the hike full of energy. The air was fresh, and I felt strong. But the mountain was steep, and as the trail became harder, so did my thoughts. Doubts and worries began to appear. With every step, a voice inside me questioned whether I could keep going. In many ways, it felt like life itself. When things get difficult, our minds can become our toughest obstacle.
Turning back wasn’t an option. Stopping for too long would only make it harder to continue. So I decided to do something different. Instead of fighting my thoughts, I acknowledged them and kept moving. Every time an intrusive thought appeared, I whispered to myself:
“Go with heart, passion, and courage.” Again and again.
Something began to change. Little by little, my focus shifted away from the doubts and back to the trail beneath my feet. My body felt lighter. My energy returned. The mountain was still steep, but I was no longer climbing it alone. I was carrying my heart with me.
When I finally reached the summit, I felt relieved. Free. Light.
I stood there feeling grateful to the mountain and proud of myself. Not because I had reached the top, but because I had learned something important along the way: When we move forward with heart and courage, we are capable of climbing mountains, both the ones beneath our feet and the ones within ourselves.
