Finding Calm in a City That Never Stops – By Ryan – Jakarta, Indonesia 🇮🇩

When I moved to Jakarta 14 years ago, I was overwhelmed. I had grown up in a small hometown where life moved at a slower pace. Suddenly, I found myself living in one of the busiest cities in the world, surrounded by traffic, noise, and the constant rush of people trying to get somewhere. The daily commute was often stressful. It felt as if everyone was moving fast, all the time.

Over the years, I discovered something simple that changed my experience of the city: walking. Whenever I could, I chose to walk home from my office. The journey was about five or six kilometers, and it usually took me between thirty and forty minutes. What started as a practical choice soon became one of the most important parts of my day.

Those walks gave me space. Space to leave work behind. Space to think. Space to breathe.

As I walked, the stress of the day slowly faded. Problems that had felt overwhelming became easier to understand. My mind became clearer, and my body relaxed.

The city around me had not changed. The traffic was still there. The crowds were still there. But walking helped me find a sense of calm within it all. For me, those daily walks became more than exercise. They became a way to reconnect with myself in the middle of a fast-moving world.
